so remember that art ministry we were discussing at the last douloi meeting?
eric & i have been working on a more formalized proposal, and we want to know what you guys think about it. what are your concerns? what issues (spiritual, logistical, whatever) do you see? right now, our main questions are concerning:
(1) timing, ie. is this the right time to be starting this ministry?
(2) leadership, especially when all you seniors leave ):
(3) how do we get participants to be committed to this ministry?
one last thing: before you post your replies, please pray about it. we really want this ministry to be grounded in prayer, even if it takes some time before it is fully realized.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
[purpose]
- OVERALL: to glorify God through visual and language arts while increasing participation and commitment within the youth and creating a forum for creativity and evangelism.
- this ministry will be similar to a small group in that we want committed people involved in this group who will be respectful of their peers, and willing to share about their personal journeys.
- we’d like to see people of all different ages, genders, etc. come together for a common goal: the glorification of our Lord through their artistic abilities.
[visual arts subcommittee]
- special events decorations (ie. coffeehouse, brothers/sisters appreciation)
- art for the new room (created on an individual’s own time)
- worship art? (art created at church, maybe on a more permanent level, ie large paper or canvases)
[language arts subcommittee]
- goal is to create a publication (quarterly? annually?)
- possible submissions include: testimonies, short stories, poetry
-possible form of evangelism (esp. w/ testimonies & gospel presentation)
[integration & publication]
- each subcommittee will have its own meetings & leaders; leaders will work together
- members of subcommittees will work together as needed
- publication of works by youth in either a digital and/or physical format? (digital: on the website, maybe as a pdf?; physical: book, magazine, zine-style xerox)
- publication will include both writing & art
[meetings & administration]
- meetings will be held about once a month, as arranged by leaders (unless special events demand that they meet more often)
- during meetings, sharing of works & prayer will be emphasized.
- leaders are expected to be passionate and genuine, and their actions should demonstrate this. accountability and peer mentorship are important aspects of this ministry.
